Xanthos is located 70 km to the east from Fethiye and 40 km west of Kas. Once it was the capital city of the ancient Lycian federation, but the first settlement is believed to have been here already in the Bronze Age. Some of the remains are dating back to the 8th century BC. Letoon was the sacred cult center of Xanthos, a few remains of temples can be visited here. In Xanthos are the ruins of an amphitheatre, various tombs, and parts of a roman-byzantine street, acropolis and a byzantine basilica. Great mosaics have been found in the basilica but to protect them they are now covered. Most of the finds in Xanthos and Letoon are in the BritishMuseum.
Open all year around, the site is not gated.
