Turkey Being Unfairly Targeted By Both Sides In The Brexit Debate

17th June 2016

The Brexit debate rages on in the UK as we get closer to the referendum date on the 23rd. One country in particular seems to be getting mentioned quite a lot.

That is of course Turkey and both the stay and leave groups seem to have a bizarre belief that Turks are just waiting to run to the UK as soon as Turkey becomes a member of the EU.

It’s a strange belief especially when you consider the strong cultural attachment many Turks have to their home country. And ironically it seems to be the opposite as many people from all around the world move to Turkey every year to join our amazing expat communities and enjoy a relaxing holiday.

And when you consider all the natural beauty and historic wonders of Turkey you have to wonder why the leave campaign seems to think everyone will leave to go and stay in the UK? The stay campaign headed by British Prime Minister David Cameron hasn’t been overly complimentary either.

Not only have they not strongly argued over the leave campaign’s claims they’ve also made ensuring the public that Turkey won’t achieve EU membership a cornerstone of their campaign. It’s a shame that both groups have resorted to scare mongering and painted Turkey as some backwards country that people are just waiting to leave.

Because with many people moving and holidaying in Turkey every year we know that this simply isn’t the case. Similar thoughts to ours where reported by Enis Koylu in the Independent and we’d be interested to hear your thoughts in the comment section below.
