GENERAL

Electronic extension (e-extension) for residence permits has been developed in order for the foreigners who already hold residence permits (short-term, student and family residence permits) to carry out extension procedures regarding residence permit electronically.

Applications for humanitarian residence permits and the permits of victims of human trafficking must be made at Provincial Directorates of Migration Management.

A foreigner who changes his/her passport within the period of residence permit is required to use first application page and then to be present on the appointment time and date at Provincial Directorate of Migration Management.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Applications for extension shall be made within sixty days prior to the expiration of the residence permit and, in any case, before the expiration of the residence permit.

In order to make the application, you have to fill out the residence permit application form completely. Please be sure that your document contents comply with your statements.

Application form of residence permit which shows application number and required documents is produced by the system after the application form has been filled out.

Moreover, “an application document for residence permit” shall be produced by the system for the foreigner who completes his/her application. A foreigner is granted to reside in the country legally with the application document for residence permit until the completion of residence permit procedures, but this document does not grant the right to enter into or exit from the country.

(!) If the foreigner wishes to enter into or exit from the country, it is required for him/her to arrive at Provincial Directorate of Migration Management in person and to have his/her application document for residence permit approved. The document, except for those specified as exempted from fee on the document, shall be carried together with the fee receipt for the entry into or exit from the country.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

The required documents shall vary depending on the residence permit or the reason of stay that you select.

The administration may always ask for additional information and documents concerning your residence permit request.

It is required to have a passport or a document substituting a passport which is 60 days longer than the requested residence permit period.

Photo must be taken within the last 6-month (frontal, clear face, in a way that the foreigner can be recognized easily) with a white background and as biometric.

In cases where passport is not written in Latin letters, certified translation by a sworn translator or official authorities shall also be added to the application.

If name and surname are not written separately in passport, it is required that you to submit document to be taken from your own country representatives showing clear identity information to administration.

In case of a change in your name or last name, it is required to update your information by applying to the provincial offices in person. The birth certificate may be requested for foreign minors.

During the requested residence permit period, if your expenses concerning food, accommodation or health are covered by public institutions, please notify the administration about the documents showing those.

In cases where the person concerned is under the age of 18, a deed of consent which shall be given by his/her mother/father who lives abroad or by legal representative and also the recognizance which shall be given by natural or legal persons on condition that it is stated in the deed of consent are required to be submitted to the administration.

DATA ENTRY

You can apply for an extension of your residence permit type stated on your residence permit.

Expiry date of the residence permit is the starting date of the extension period that could be selected.

Extension period that could be requested may vary according to the duration of the passport and selected residence permit type.

Photo must be taken within the last 6-month (frontal, clear face, in a way that the foreigner can be recognized easily) with a white background and as biometric. It is absolutely required to upload the photo into the system in the course of application.

PAYMENT OF THE FEES

The amount of fees to be paid shall be calculated automatically by the system by taking into account the issues such as bilateral agreements, residence permit expiry date, the requested extension period, nationality information and marital status with the Turkish citizens.

Please pay separately for the residence permit fee and residence permit document cost, and ask for duplicate receipt.

You can make the payments of the residence permit fee and residence permit cost to the local departments of finance, provincial fiscal offices, or to the banks which have an agreement with the Ministry of Finance.

DELIVERING THE DOCUMENTS BY POST

After paying the residence permit fee and residence permit card fee, all required documents with the payment receipts (you keep one copy of the receipts) in a large A4 paper-sized envelope are required to be delivered via PTT (Turkish Post) certified mail service or cargo to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management where you have applied.

The applicant is responsible for mismatch between the declared information and the information presented in the mailed documents as well as a failure to review the case due to any missing document (except for problems regarding postal service/cargo).

(!) If the foreigner wishes to make any change to the application after mailing the form and the documents, then the foreigner is required to make a request in person to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management.

MISSING DOCUMENT PROCESS

You shall be given the complementary information and documents required during the application and you are required to submit those documents max. in 30 days.

If the documents are not completed in time, your application shall be removed and you shall be subject to the general provisions concerning visa and residence permit violations.

In case the application is submitted via the system but the documents do not reach Provincial Directorate of Migration Management in 30 days, the foreigners shall be informed through their e-mail addresses and they are required to submit their documents to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management in 10 days at the latest. Otherwise, the application made via the system shall not be assessed.

ASSESSMENT PROCESS

The application shall be considered complete only when all documents and required information are delivered to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management by mail. As of this date, the assessment period of the administration is 90 days.

The applications not coming from mail shall not be assessed.

If your assessment result is positive, your residence permit shall be issued by the Directorate General of Migration Management and shall be sent to your address you have stated.

OBLIGATION TO RESPOND TO SUMMONS

Pursuant to Article 97 of Law No: 6458, Directorate General of Migration Management or Provincial Directorate of Migration Management may request you to be present for the reasons which are as follows: emerging of examination need about your entry into and stay in Turkey, possibility of taking a removal decision against you, notification for the actions regarding the implementation of this Law. It is an obligation for you to respond to summons.

In case you do not respond to summons or there is a serious doubt of not-responding, you may be brought by the police force without being summoned.

For confirmation and information, please notify a valid mobile phone number and an e-mail address you use. The notification that are sent to this number and e-mail address shall be deemed to be made to you.

Please check your e-mail box until your residence permit document reaches you (the notifications may drop into Junk E-Mail folder).

Please ignore the e-mails sent to you regarding your residence permit actions except for the e-mails with “.......@goc.gov.tr” extension.

PREVIOUS APPOINTMENTS

The appointments given by foreigners’ department before 18th May 2015 are also required to be renewed over the system.

The date and number of the previous appointments are required to be registered in the system.

The previous appointment document, if available, is also required to be submitted on the appointment day.

LEGAL OBLIGATIONS
