To register a marriage between a foreign national and a Turkish citizen.

Required Documents:

Affidavit/Affirmation
Birth certificate and passport
A divorce or death certificate of previous spouse if married before

Please note that for British nationals the marriage procedure has changed.

From 1st March 2014 Turkish marriage offices will accept an affidavit/affirmation sworn before a UK public notary or British Embassy/Consulate in Turkey depending on your residency status.

If you are resident in the UK you need to complete the bilingual Affidavit/Affirmation form and have your oath/affirmation administered by a local public notary in the UK and legalised by foreign commonwealth office legalised department before travelling to Turkey. Then you will submit this document to local marriage office in the town where you are going to get married.

If you are a British citizen residing in Turkey, you need to complete the bilingual Affidavit/Affirmation form. You can then book an appointment at the British Embassy Ankara or consulates in Istanbul, Izmir or Antalya for administering your oath/affirmation. Your documents must be legalised by the Turkish Authorities either by the ministry of Foreign affairs in Ankara or the governor in Istanbul, Izmir or Antalya. Once this document is legalised you will submit it to the local marriage office in the town where you are going to get married

Your Turkish partner will require their kimlik ID card. Also, only if they have been married before, a certificate of no impediment.

If you are a foreign national and you wish to marry a Turkish citizen in Turkey, firstly you need to submit your application of your intended marriage to the British consulate in Turkey to initiate the formalities. You will need to book an appointment at the consulate to give notice of your marriage.

Procedure:

The Affidavit/Affirmation approved by the relevant consulate in Turkey.
Application in person to the local marriage office together with the Turkish national to give notice of marriage, submit the certificates, complete necessary forms and fix a date for the marriage ceremony

Marriage ceremony

If you wish to have the marriage registered in the country of foreign national, you will need to inform your consulate.
