There are many health insurers, the Turkish government insurance scheme is the SGK (Sosyal Güvenlik Kurumu), this entitles you to treatment in the government hospitals.

The Turkish government health insurance, SGK (Sosyal Güvenlik Kurumu),

Under the SGK health insurance you are entitled to healthcare in the state
hospitals and clinics. Coverage includes most health problems including operations,
treatments, and pregnancy.

Some private hospitals accept SGK, you will have to pay towards the cost of your
treatment but at heavily discounted rates - typically 30% - 70%.

Plastic surgery is not covered under the SGK health insurance.

For a married couple you will pay approx. 300,00 TL per month for this insurance. (this price increases every year) If you have any dependents under the ages of 18 they are also covered under this policy.

For a single person you will also pay approx. 300,00 TL per month for this insurance policy.

You must hold a Turkish residency permit and living in Turkey on a permanent basis to apply for SGK health insurance.

A full set of doctors reports from a state hospital showing that you do not have any pre-existing chronic condition must be presented on application.

Update: From April 2014 residents living in Turkey, under the age of 65, health insurance is compulsory.*

*Please note; Private or state health insurance will be not asked from the citizens of countries which have reciprocal agreement with Turkey.

SGK - You can choose to join the Turkish SGK (government) healthcare scheme or obtain private health care.

You can apply to join the Turkish National Insurance SGK scheme which covers the whole family for most medical expenses at the state hospitals and clinics for around 272 TL per month.

HEALTH INSURANCE IN TURKEY

If you are staying in a resort hotel they usually have doctors avalible on site.
The local doctors can be found very easily as they have their clinics in town which are mostly open 24 hours during the peak summer season. Also the pharmacies offer very good advice for less serious health issues.
